Carmelo Anthony is in it for the long haul. This summer, after being tempted by the Bulls and Heat, Melo opted to re-sign with his hometown New York Knicks, the team he one day hopes to win an NBA Championship with. He understands it’ll be a long grind, especially coming off last season, in which Melo missed the playoffs for the first time in his pro career, not to mention a new president (Phil Jackson), head coach (1st year shot-caller Derek Fisher), and several brand new additions/losses to the starting five and roster. While some may be excited about all the new changes happening around Anthony, who is the centerpiece of the organization, Melo does not appear to be in favor of them just yet.

When asked about the Knicks’ prognosis and his opinion on all the current and new guys on payroll, Carmelo had this to say to ESPN.

For this season, right now, we have what we have. We’re going to deal with that. That was a big discussion with me and Phil — that was one of my things.

So much shade the lights probably dimmed when he uttered those words. “We’re going to deal with that?” If Melo had say, two other superstars on his team, a la LeBron James, we highly doubt he’d be saying things like “we’re going to deal with that.” That sounds like something he’d say to his sister if his nephew crashed his car and he forgot to renew the insurance. We’re still about a month out, so we NBA fans will have to deal with that.
