Nicki Minaj was supposed to release her brand new album, The Pinkprint, her 3rd album, on November 24th. However, her new release suffered a pushback–The Pinkprint is now set to be released on December 15th–which may turn out to be a gift and a curse. The curse being she’s disappointed millions of fans who were expecting to have her new album in 3 weeks, the gift being she’s no longer releasing an album the same day Beyonce and Eminem–two of the few guaranteed chart killers left–will be releasing their newest LPs. In the meantime, Nicki hasn’t shied away from the spotlight. She’s released her new single, “Only,” the gossip-inducing record featuring Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown–her biggest collaboration in years. Tomorrow, she’ll be on newsstands everywhere thanks to Billboard, and in an excerpt from the interview, she alludes to something that most may not think about when talking about a Nicki Minaj album.

It’s corny when rappers feel like they’ve made it and they don’t have to prove themselves anymore. You should always be competing. You should always be trying to show that you’re the best. My album is going to be important to hip-hop.

In about 5 weeks, we’ll know for sure.
