Today, Nike has announced that they will in fact part ways with Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and terminate his contract. According to Nike spokesman Kejuan Wilkins in a recent statement to Bloomberg’s Scott Soshnick, the brand will cut its ties with the running back and as of today “Adrian Peterson is no longer a Nike athlete.”

This comes days after Peterson pleaded a no contest to the misdemeanor charges for reckless assault and was ordered to pay $4,000 in fines and perform 80 hours of community service. Peterson now joins UFC fighter Jon Jones, fellow NFL player Ray Rice and sprinter Oscar Pistorius as athletes this year that have been dropped from the brand.

This is a tough break for Adrian Peterson. Hopefully all his other sponsors don’t follow suit. Head to twitter and talk sports with Drew – @Drewtheabstract
