Where was security?

Last week, Charles Logan, a 69-year old patient of St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, Minnesota, ripped off a bar from the side of his hospital bed and attacked several nurses, striking two of them so badly that they had to be hospitalized. Authorities are saying Logan’s paranoia was underestimated, and the elderly patient thought there were people trying to kill him. This level of violence, according to Logan’s family, is unheard of.

According to Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell, “Everything we’ve been able to learn talking to friends and family of Mr. Logan, this was not him. That confusion and level of paranoia and violence was never part of his background and nor was it expected.”

In the above video clip, several nurses are seen in the frame working at their computers, when, from the top-left corner of the screen, Logan enters the office space swinging the hospital bed bar, forcing all the nurses to scramble. As the camera angle switches, he’s seen chasing several nurses through a door, and towards the end of the unfortunate clip, he’s seen striking down a nurse so badly, she struggles to get up even after Logan moves away from her. One of the nurses involved in the chaos was 8 months pregnant, and thankfully, reports indicate she was not badly injured.

The Logan died shortly after the attack, after fleeing the scene by running outside of the hospital. He was quickly apprehended and tasered by police officers.
