On Sunday November 9, 2014, comedian Rachel Feinstein performed to finish off the New York Comedy Festival.  Rachel was a finalist on season 7 of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” and got to opportunity to perform her material on the SubCulture stage.  This performance started off really strong with radio personality Cipha Sounds, who has also appeared on “The Chappelle Show,” hosting the event.  He made it clear to the audience right away that tonight we were all going to get racial and ignorant.  He started off with crowd work, talking about the different races and how they fit into society, such as how everybody should always look at the black guy to make sure something is funny and not racist, because if you laugh before the black guy about something that might be racist, you better believe that you will get punched in the face.  For his last bit, he basically did a PSA to white people on the behalf of the Puerto Rican community.  He made it clear that all Latinos are not the same just because they all speak Spanish, something that really needed to be said. Cipha had a great energy to him, getting the crowd excited and their energy up.  He was a great host to say the very least.

After Cipha left the stage, comedian Yannis Pappas took the stage.  He talked about living in NYC and how this great city is the best city in the world.  He also mentioned how New Yorkers are probably some of the most bitter people in the world.  According to him, the litmus test to see how New York someone is based on how much they hate people who are visiting from out of state.  This is extremely true because, to be completely honest, nobody really wants to go see The Statue of Liberty and usually whenever someone wants to go see it, it’s always -20 degrees Fahrenheit.  There is no exception to that rule.  New Yorkers would really prefer just lying in bed and watching Netflix all day, and anybody who wants us to leave that life to do something else is a toxic person. At the same time, according to Yannis, New Yorkers have such a bad reputation about being so negative that whenever they go to another city, they have to lie about how great it is so they don’t seem like a cranky, unappreciative loser.  No truer words have ever been said and a special thanks should go out to Yannis for speaking the truth in such a funny way.

After Yannis was done with his set, comedian Amy Schumer came to the stage to introduce her good friend Rachel Feinstein.  Right off the gate, Rachel was on fire with her jokes.  She started off with how she is so immature with dating and maintaining a relationship mainly from the fact that she always wants to joke around right after sex.  That doesn’t seem too bad, right?  Wrong, because according to Rachel, her boyfriend is not appreciative of the comedic genius that is her throwing coins at him after sex in a sort of payment.  “Go get yourself something nice, you’re worth it,” says Rachel to her obviously confused and upset boyfriend.  And she talks about her struggles with trying to be sexy.  Her boyfriend wanted her to give him a sexy dance but Rachel would not have any of that and would rather give him money to go to a strip club than do that for him.  Rachel was, in a way, tastefully offensive with her stories about her many sexual excursions and why her life is just a huge mess (no offense Rachel).  She is such a talented comedian and a great storyteller. We were captivated.  One of her best jokes of the night was her description of the differences between a tool and a douche.  To her, a douche is worse than a tool and signs that you are seeing a douche is, first off, his name is Chad, and secondly, he wears an uncomfortable amount of Axe Body Spray.  A tool to her is much better because they aren’t as much a jerek as a tool. A tool can be seen wearing socks with sandals as well as wearing sunglasses but on the back of their neck.  Key phrases tools use are “Maxim,” and “Game 7.”  That joke in particular had the crowd laughing uncontrollably.  Rachel, in a nutshell, is amazingly funny.  Her timing for her jokes were great and the crowd absolutely loved her.  This show was recorded for her new Comedy Central CD, which everybody should buy, unless you’re a tool or a douche (joking).  Rachel Feinstein is one talented comedian and is someone that everybody, no matter who you are, needs to check out.
