The pioneer rapper loses his battle with cancer at age 57

Henry Jackson, better known to the world as “Big Bank Hank” of the legendary Sugar Hill Gang passed away early today from cancer.

David Mallie, the manager of the two surviving members of the group who recorded the groundbreaking “Rapper’s Delight” record in 1979, confirmed Jackson’s death, stating that he died from kidney complications that were a direct result of his terminal illness.

Wonder Mike and Master Gee send their condolences to their former crewmate, stating, “So sad to hear of our brother’s passing. Rest in peace Big Bank.”
