A story of revenge, friendship, mischief and penguins. Much akin to most revenge movies, Penguins of Madagascar follows the number two, the one left behind, the one no one cares about.
John Malkovich lends his voice to Dave the octopus, an octopus who was once the star of the show – all until the penguins came. Dave hides as human figure Doctor Octavius Brine whose is trying his best to destroy all the penguins all over the world.
Regulars Tom McGrath, Chris Miller, Christopher Knights and Conrad Vernon return to their regular voiced penguin characters of Skipper, Kowalski, Private, and Rico respectively. They try and save not only their penguin buddies all over the world but also the people who love them.
Helping the penguins in their quest are the North Wind animals; secret agents working to help secure the safety of all animals. Classified (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) leads the group as a natural born leading wolf, with Short Fuse (voiced by Ken Jeong) as a ballistics expert seal, Eva (Annet Mahendru) as a fierce owl, and Corporal (Peter Stormare) as a lovable polar bear.
The film is a great comedy and entertaining elongation of the Penguins television show. With hilarious innuendoes for the parents, it caters to both the kids watching it and the adults in the audience. With a great plot story that brings the viewer around the world, it shows kids what a true friendship truly means. The penguins are on an endless chase with each other and with the North Wind task force, and it only adds to the comedic relief of the film.
It’s a great way to spend the extra long Thanksgiving weekend since it can really teach your children to be thankful for things they cannot put into physical spaces – like friendships. While most spin-offs can come off as a bit much from the main genre, this might just be a match for the main Madagascar series, even better. The jokes are enough for kids to handle and for adults to have a fun time watching, and it just is an entertaining movie that relies on visual comedy, which kids will really enjoy.
Penguins of Madagascar comes out November 26, 2014 and it’s a fun film to watch if you need some entertainment.
