Before they terrorized Oakland in front of St. Louis’ packed home crowd, 5 St. Louis Rams players decided to take a stand of injustice and to express themselves. The five players walked out towards the field during a pre-game intro with their hands up, in support of the family of Mike Brown and protesters out in Ferguson, Missouri. This has became a controversy in the sports and media world because a certain group of people disagreed with the actions of what the Rams player displayed. The St. Louis Police Officers Association condemned the players actions as “tasteless, offensive and inflammatory“. In addition, they are demanding a public apology.

The NFL heard the complaints and concerns regarding towards this issue. After further review, the NFL decided not to punish the group for expressing their beliefs on this heated topic. NFL Spokesman Brian McCarthy said in this statement, “We respect and understand the concerns of all individuals who have expressed views on this tragic situation.” Even though the decision is final, the action has sparked some mixed feelings as the battle of justice in Ferguson is evolving one day at a time. Since the announcement of the Darren Wilson/Mike Brown case, people nationwide have publicly expressed themselves, yearning for change by any means necessary. Even though these NFL players are public figures, they are individuals just like everyone else, that are willing to express themselves however and whenever they want to.
