Kris Knight’s “Smell The Magic” hosted in the Miami Design district kicked off Miami Art Week 2014 earlier this week.

The Canadian painter’s work most often investigates the boundaries and constructions of sexual and asexual identities. Knight’s subject matter includes characters who struggle between youth and adulthood and he plays with ideas such as the juxtaposition of innocence and eroticism. Some common themes found throughout his body of work include romanticism, mysticism and symbolism and contrasts these concepts with androgyny and the postmodern gaze. He uses a variety of media such as painting, and drawing and is infamous for his classical illustrative figurative paintings which pay homage to 18th century French portraiture. Not only is Kris Knight well renowned in the art world, but now he’s expanding his talents to the fashion industry. Knight is collaborating with Gucci creative director Frida Giannini on a redesign of the classic Gucci floral print for the 2015 Cruise collection. Gucci hosted the reception along with the Miami-based art gallery, Spinello Projects. Spinello Projects, founded in 2005, promotes the work of alternative and experimental artist such as Kris Knight. Check out some of the pictures from the event below:
