Darren Sharper was a stellar NFL safety, with stats that easily make him a first-ballot Hall of Famer. However, he’s got some real life troubles that may put a stop to all of that.

Earlier this year, Sharper was accused of drugging and raping several women in New Orleans last year, and today he has officially been indicted on counts of aggravated and simple rape, which carry sentences that could find Sharper in jail for the rest of his life.

That is, however, only one half of the story. Currently, Sharper is in California–where he’s been jailed since February of this year–facing more rape charges stemming from a separate incident, and he’s also expected to face similar charges in Las Vegas.

The maximum charge for those found guilty of aggravated rape in Louisiana is life without the possibility of parole. Ironically enough, New Orleans is where Sharper became a football hero, when he helped lead the Saints to their first and only Superbowl victory in franchise history in 2009.
