Since its breakthrough in popularity nearly a decade ago, Facebook has undergone various changes in the way content is shared and consumed.  One of the items that users have always suggested is to incorporate a “dislike” button into posts.  This is something that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has been staunchly against in years past, citing that a dislike button would open the door for its use as a means of revenge.  The company has already dealt with fan pages and posts being reported by users out of pure spite.

During a recent Q&A session in California, Zuckerberg was again asked about including the feature.  He responded by saying that there will not be a “dislike” button, but the Facebook staff are currently working on a suitable alternative.

Zuckerberg:

“A lot of times people share things on Facebook that are sad moments in their lives. Often people tell us that they don’t feel comfortable pressing ‘like’ because ‘like’ isn’t the appropriate sentiment.

“Some people have asked for a dislike button because they want to say, ‘That thing isn’t good.’ That’s not something that we think is good for the world.”

Though Facebook still reigns supreme in the world of social media, other contenders such as Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and several others are fighting for the number one spot.  Re-invention is the key to sustainability, so perhaps a new feature can maintain the social giants longevity.
