StyleLikeU1Founded by mother-daughter duo, Elisa Goodkind and Lily Mandelbaum, StyleLikeU is an online video platform that gives voice to the stories of singular individuals and their authentic personal style.

Through raw and honest docu-style videos, StyleLikeU has harnessed a new wave of fashion, where style is not about celebrity status, trends or airbrushed photographs.

Style is both self-expression and self-acceptance and at the core of every person’s identity. With that said, over the last six months, the series has gone viral, with 1 million+ views on many episodes. The series has also been covered by Upworthy, The Huffington Post, Refinery29, Rookie Magazine, The Daily Mail, People Magazine, The Today Show, Entertainment Tonight and now The Source Magazine Online.

On November 18, StyleLikeU’s founders launched a Kickstarter campaign that will fund a feature-length documentary about the movement, igniting a fundamental cultural shift in how we define and celebrate what is beautiful.

Per Nylon Magazine: “We really hope this documentary gets the funding it needs: We can all learn, and heal, from listening to other people’s stories about how they’ve come to love themselves despite oppositional forces.”

Endorsed by RZA of Wu-Tang Clan, Sia, Patti Smith, SMH Records’ Mike Smith, Amanda Palmer, Devendra Banhart, Kate Nash, and more, StyleLikeU reached their goal and raised $100,000.

With only seven days remaining in their campaign, they are attempting to double that. All additional funds raised will expand the reach of the movement and the depth of the film with the goal of giving a voice to more people everywhere. Additionally, it will create a new standard across the world and how one views self and others.

StyleLikeU will be able to tell more stories from more places around the world, documenting What’s Underneath not just in cities in Europe and America, but in more far-reaching locations, like Africa and The Middle East. It’ll also be able to expand their satellite ambassador programs, introducing more opportunities to schools and communities to utilize the concepts of What’s Underneath as a learning tool and cathartic exercise for self-worth and tolerance.

Lastly, it will also be that much closer to transforming their website into an interactive, social community. Individuals will be able to submit their own What’s Underneath stories — making the website a home for people to share their true selves with a like-minded community.
