Back in 2009, talk of an N.W.A. biopic began to surface. The names of several directors were mentioned to possibly bring the story to life, including Boyz N Da Hood director John Singleton. As the years went by,various different scripts were drafted up, and Universal Pictures picked up the film while director F. Gary Gray (Friday/Set It Off) was selected to direct the flick. As an open casting call went out, many aspiring actors auditioned, including Compton rapper YG, who was contending for the role of MC Ren. Ultimately, several little known actors were selected to fill the roles of the legendary group, including Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr, who will be playing his father.

This past summer, Universal announced that the film will be titled Straight Outta Compton, an ode to their classic album of the same name and has a tentative release date of August 2015. The film is produced by Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and , widow of Eazy-E., Tomica Woods-Wright. Since being in production for most of the year, a teaser has finally surfaced. During a concert, original N.W.A. member Ice Cube cranked up the projector and previewed the first trailer to the audience. From the initial look, it appears as though this will be one of the most talked about films in 2015.
