Iggy Azalea was attacked, criticized and debated for much of what was a very successful 2014, and as the 2015 Grammy Awards loom, at which Azalea will be up for 4 awards including Record of the Year, there are more and more conversations surrounding the Aussie Hip-Pop star.

One of those conversations was had between Kendrick Lamar and Billboard. The Compton emcee’s cover will be revealed tomorrow (Jan. 9), but the publication leaked a portion of Kendrick’s interview, in which he says Iggy Azalea is here for a reason and the industry needs to let her figure out just what that is.

She’s doing her thing. Let her. People have to go through trials and tribulations to get where they at. Do your thing, continue to rock it, because obviously God wants you here.

Kendrick is up for some Grammy Awards as well next month–“i” is nominated for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance–bringing his two year nomination total to 9. He spoke on last year’s awards briefly–Macklemore infamously won 4 of the awards Lamar was nominated for, and helped to send him home 0-for-7–and reiterated that the Grammys are not who he makes music for.

I appreciate [the Grammys] recognizing me. That’s not my overall goal… It’s best to just go and enjoy the festivities.
