Early this morning, the tragic news hit the web regarding the death of A$AP Yams, founder of the A$AP Mob. There has been an outpouring of grief, condolences and support throughout the music industry. Though the cause of death is currently unknown, many have begun to speculate that his death was a result of drug use. Yams, real name Steven Rodriguez, has eluded on several occasions to drug use, including Xanax and codeine, even checking himself into a rehab for a brief stint in 2014.

Less than a few hours after the news has been made public, DJ Vlad of VladTV got a hold of A$AP Ant for a phone interview in which the A$AP member shared his grief but also set the record straight on the overdose rumors.

“That’s not what it is,” he said. “People keep talking saying he overdosed on Xanax and s*** like that. No, that’s not what happened at all. It wasn’t that at all.”

Another point of emphasis is a picture floating around the web of frontman A$AP Rocky grieving in the hospital where Yams passed away. The photo was presumably taken by an onlooker who was present at the hospital. Ant expressed his displeasure with the photo being taken at such a trying and personal time.

“Everybody on Instagram posting pictures of Rocky at the hospital where he passed away at, ya’ll looking like females and the tabloids,” he said. “That’s not any of your business to post that. That’s private for somebody. I would want to see a picture of me on the internet going to the hospital to see my grandfather while he’s dying. I wouldn’t want to see that.”

A$AP Yams not only founded the A$AP Mob in his home of Harlem but helped guide the careers of superstars A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg.

RIP to A$AP Yams and sincere condolences to his loved ones. Truly tragic loss in all aspects.
