Russell Wilson says higher power was behind Championship game.
By now everyone has caught wind of the Seahawks miraculous comeback in Sundays NFC Championship game against the Packers. With just over four minutes left in the game, Seattle was down 19-7, while their quarterback Russell Wilson was in the midst of one his worst career outings. At that point, he had already thrown four interceptions and had a downright repugnant QBR of 0.2. Their gray clouds turned to clear skies as Wilson helped the team score 15 points in the remaining minutes, then throwing a perfect pass to win the game in overtime.
Overcome with emotion following the victory, Wilson thanked God in his postgame interview, even crying during the teams postgame prayer circle. While speaking with Monday Morning Quarterback, Wilson stated that God was behind his poor performance and also set up the entire sequence of events that led to the miracle comeback.
I found Wilson afterward, and asked him about the four picks, and going from the worst game of his life to the most exhilarating in the span of eight minutes of game time.
“That’s God setting it up, to make it so dramatic, so rewarding, so special,” he said, alone for a moment in the locker room before heading out for the night. “I’ve been through a lot in life, and had some ups and downs. It’s what’s led me to this day.”
In recent years, Tim Tebow was the NFL’s poster boy for christianity, but it seems Russell Wilson is picking up where he left off. Some might argue that God has more pertinent matters to tend to, like famine or disease, as opposed to a trivial game, but whatever works. Wilson has stated in the past that he found God as a teenager and that has helped him mature into the man he is today.
