Coach Pop just won 1000 NBA games, what have you done lately?
With the San Antonio Spurs’ 95-93 victory over the Indiana Pacers last Monday, Coach Gregg Popovich earned his 1,000th win as a head coach. Pop is now only one of nine NBA head coaches to reach the 1K mark; an elite group to say the least. Coach Pop now has more wins than five NBA franchises.
Coach Pop won every one of his games with the San Antonio Spurs. He did it while racking up 16 60-win seasons. (that is out of 18 seasons total, not including this current season) The Spurs are known around the sports world as being a disciplined, efficient team that consistently does things the right way, which is a testament to Coach Pop.
Some say that it is his military background that makes him the coach that he is. He began his adult career as a member of the U.S Air Force. Popovich will tell you that the reason he has been able to have continued success is because of the players that he has chosen. Not just the fact that he is known for bringing guys in from overseas, but that the players he has that stick around, buy into his system and understand that to reach the ultimate goal, there must be a lot of trust and humility on the behalf of everyone involved.
The Spurs are currently the seven seed in the Western Conference and will travel to Detroit on Wednesday for the third game of their Rodeo Road trip.
