Tune in Monday to B.E.T‘s premiere of “The Book Of Negroes”, starring Cuba Gooding Jr.

As we do every year, this February we reflect during Black History Month, and for this years theme for the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade on March 25th, the world will honor the opening of the “Ark of Return” monument as a permanent memorial at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This Monday B.E.T will be honoring Black History Month by broadcasting “The Book of Negroes series”, based on Lawrence Hill’s nationally bestselling novel titled, “Someone knows My name”. From this February 16th thru 18th the mini-series will depict the historical story of the character Aminata Diallo, a courageous slave woman kidnapped by the slave trade, who uses astonishing perseverance and tenacity to triumph against all odds. The Novel has earned awards all around the world, including the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize and CBC Canada Reads.

This week The United Nations held a screening followed by a discussion, with the Director and Executive Producer Clement Virgo, along with Non-Governmental organizations New Future Foundation, Inc. and Speaking Wombs, Lead actress Aunjanaue Ellis, and Oscar Emmy winner Louis Gossett Jr., moderated by Maher Nasser, Director, outreach Division, United Nations Department of Public information, and was co-sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations.
