20-year-old Bobby Shmurda, real name Ackquille Pollard, has been sitting in a New York City jail since December 16, 2014 when he was arrested along with several of his GS9 crew members. Facing serious charges ranging from murder to narcotics trafficking, his bail was set at a hefty $2 Million, which his label Epic Records stated they would pay to have him released. Since then, the label has backtracked on their statement, and Shmurda has remained in custody with no clear release date in site.

In the months that have passed, several rumors have begun circulating as to Shmurda’s current predicament. Such hearsay has been that he refused bail money from his management team, which he had a falling out with, as well as egregious tales of him being stabbed to death in jail.

In an attempt to set things straight, Bobby Shmurda recently called into Hot 97’s Ebro In The Morning and spoke on his whereabouts. He informed the morning show crew that he is indeed in protective custody but also revealed that his GS9 comrade Rowdy Rebel is currently in the box after getting into an altercation with a fellow inmate. Though he appeared to be in positive spirits, he told listeners that the arresting officers were targeting him because of his success in music, even chastising Epic Records reps about giving the youngster a platform. Unfortunately, Shmurda’s phone call was abruptly cut short by jail officials.
