Sam won four Grammys this year for his debut album In the Lonely Hour. Read what he told reporters after his big win.

Sam, just a couple of months ago, we were here for Jingle Ball, and you performed for the first time. That’s when we found out about your nominations. Now we’re here, brother. Congratulations.

Sam Smith: Thank you so much. I feel like Kate Winslet at the Oscars right now. I’ve never done one of these. This is amazing. I don’t know how to react right now. This is absolutely incredible. It’s a dream come true. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.

Is it a Netflix night tonight or are you going to party?

Sam Smith: I’m going in … I need to go to In-N-Out Burger though because I’ve been drinking loads of green juice lately. It’s time to ruin that.

Sam, you mentioned that guy who of course this is all about. Have you heard from him? Do you think you might hear from him?

Sam Smith: Yeah, we’re still friends. Still friends, so I chat to him all the time. I’m pretty sure he’s very happy.

What could ever top this really?

Sam Smith: What could top this? A boyfriend would be nice … I don’t think it would top this though, actually nothing. Nothing. That’s the curse for the rest of my life, I think.

What are you looking for in a boyfriend right now if you could just put him together?

Sam Smith: Patience. Someone who can clean these [Grammys] every day for me. I don’t know. I don’t know what I’m looking for. I think the minute I start looking, it’s not going to come my way. But I don’t know. I’m just looking for some crazy love story.

What’s next for you? How do you top this?

Sam Smith: I have no idea. I’m going to carry on with my year performing, but this is truly the highlight of my life … Who knows what’ll happen in a year. If you told me that I was going to be standing here right now, even 5 months ago, 6 months ago, I wouldn’t know. That’s the beauty of it also.

I was downstairs when Sir Paul came up to you. Rihanna gave you a big kiss on the cheek. All these stars are showing you so much love. What’s that like as you sit there for your first Grammys?

Sam Smith: It’s incredible. As a huge fan of pop culture and as a 22-year-old boy, I’ve grown up watching E! News and just being obsessed with celebrity culture. When you start to meet everyone, you start to realize they are just humans, they’re just very talented humans. It’s an honor to be sitting with people like that. I loved sitting next to Rihanna’s dress tonight. It was like sitting next to a jellyfish. It was great.

Why do you think “Stay With Me” has resonated so strongly?

Sam Smith: The thing that everyone relates to, is that everyone’s had a lot of one night stands, basically. (laughs) That’s what I like to think. And it’s the honesty. That’s something that I’m never, ever going to let go of and being honest and true in my music is very important.

Right now, if somebody was going to drop you into the middle of a reality show, after winning this, what reality show would you choose?

Sam Smith: Hmmm … Kardashians! (laughs)

Have you started to think about the songs for the next record? Because it’s obviously going to be an amazing record.

am Smith: Thank you, I’ve already started writing. I work in terms of concepts, with In the Lonely Hour had the title “In the Lonely Hour” before I wrote the music. I feel like I have a title and a concept to the record and I’ve already started writing. I’m living through it now, I’m trying to kiss as many people as I can so I can write some good music! I’m writing some music I’m very proud of and it’s more honest than anything I’ve ever done.

What do you think about being compared to Adele?

Sam Smith: To be compared to the biggest singer in the world is the most amazing thing. I think we’re very very different … Well first of all, I’m a guy. (laughs) But the thing that I’d like to take from it, is that the similarities are our honesty in music and it’s a shame that there’s only a few people doing that in the industry but it’s amazing to be compared to her.
