Kanye told Complex,

I feel like Eminem. You don’t think ‘white rapper’, you just think Eminem. You don’t think celebrity designer, straight designer, black designer, all these types of things that kind of held me back conceptually in being accepted as a designer. You just think of those words.”

Kanye doesn’t only see growth in his fashion, but as man as well; admitting he didn’t respect women the way he should have when he was a bachelor.

For two years, I lived with all alpha females and a daughter. So I had to learn to really do what my mother taught me and become the man she always knew I could be, and bow as a creative.”

Yeezy also brought up the paparazzi photos where he is bending down on one knee, adjusting his wife’s pant leg. He wants to make sure the rest of the world looks as good as Kim K.

That’s what I want to do for the world, I want to get on my knees and fix everyone’s pant leg if they’ll have me; If they’ll have me make that adjustment.”

West’s road as a fashion designer has been one of ups and downs. In 2005, Yeezy first announced he would debut his clothing line entitled Pastelle in spring of 2006. The line was being developed for a few years until it was cancelled in 2009.

January of 2009, during Paris Fashion Week, West debuted his first shoe line for French fashion house Louis Vuitton. From there West collaborated with Nike in 2009 releasing his very own shoe he called the Air Yeezys, a sequel to that sneaker was released in 2012. He also designed for Italian shoemaker Giuseppe Zanotti and designed shoe-wear for Japanese clothing brand A Bathing Ape (BAPE).

On October 1, 2011 DW Kanye West, Kanye’s women’s fashion label was premiered at Paris Fashion Week. His show received mixed to negative reviews. In true West fashion, he didn’t give up after the negative feedback, on March 6, 2012 West showed his second line at Paris Fashion Week, his show was noted for a “much improved” second effort.

December 3, 2013, Adidas confirmed a new shoe collaboration deal with West. On February 12, 2015 Kanye’s new Adidas shoe, the Adidas Yeezy 750 Boost was debuted in New York. The presentation which West told Complex was “Like the Super Bowl of culture in a way” was streamed to 50 theatres around the world, the music during the presentation was his own, a new song entitled “Wolves”. 9,000 pairs of the sneakers went on sale on Valentines day, with the retailing price of $350. A larger release is set for February 28th. You can reserve a pair through the new Adidas app.

What’s next for West? “More dope shit.”
