Carlos Morales, 29, a Phoenix manufacturing worker, opened up on his wife’s tragic death in childbirth, and also shared some wonderful insights on how the babies are progressing.

“I went from having the best day of my life to the next morning experiencing the worst day of my life,” Morales told People. “My four babies came into the world, and then my wife died.”

Erica Morales, 36, died shortly after giving birth to quadruplets via a C-section, in which they all weighed between two and three pounds. She suffered severe blood loss and died early in the morning at  1:50 a.m. on  Jan. 16. 2015.

However, Erica, who once experienced a miscarriage before conceiving the quadruplets through in-vitro fertilization,  left her husband Carlos a guide on how to raise their children (which was found in an iPad note). She noted that she wishes for them to learn English and Spanish, attend college and get good jobs.

“I will try my hardest to make sure that happens,” said Carlos Morales.

Morales is now caring for son Carlos Jr. and daughters Tracey, Paisley, and Erica, the widower told People magazine.

“I’m learning everything, from how to give them a bath, CPR, feeding, and how to manage their sleep schedule,” he says. “I need to be prepared.”

Morales said two of the babies have come home from the hospital, Carlos and Tracey, while the other two, Paisley and Erica, stayed, but he still visits them faithfully.

When I’m alone at home I still tell myself that I hope I’m dreaming. Erica was the most special person in the world and she should be here to love her babies.

He also stressed that he gets lots of support from his family and friends. In fact, one family friend, Nicole Todman started a fund-raiser on GoFundMe. According to the website,  as of Monday afternoon, over 7,000 donors had given a total of $262, 651— all in a month.

Carmen, Losing 5 babies must be really hard. I’m sorry for your loss. Be comforted and know that your babies are spending eternity with Jesus. This life is but a tiny invisible speck on the time line of forever. They have everlasting life without pain. I pray you know Jesus as well and will see them one day and spend eternity with them praising God our Creator!
