A Top 10 receiver trading teams is always big news
Brandon Marshall has switched teams more often than one would expect for a receiver of his talent. His biggest problem? Not having a stable quarterback, and though Adam Schefter‘s announcement this morning will do little to change that, there’s most certainly potential.
Schefter announced via Twitter and ESPN just over an hour ago that the Chicago Bears have agreed to trade Marshall to the New York Jets–pending a physical–who have been desperately searching for a #1 receiver since the departure of Santonio Holmes, and their search may very well have just ended. Though this past season was Marshall’s first season without at least 1,000 yards receiving since his rookie year, there’s still a whole lot of football left in #15.
Regardless of who starts at quarterback for the Jets this year, Marshall will be catching passes from the most inexperienced quarterback he’s ever caught passes from in his career. Geno Smith is entering his third, make-or-break year at quarterback for the Jets, and he may already be out of time. Former Oregon QB and Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota has been touted as the next quarterback out of the draft after Jameis Winston, and many analysts are pointing to Gang Green as a potential landing spot.
The Jets have suffered at the wide receiver position since departures of some of their best recent ball catchers, including Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Jerico Cotchery. With a revamped core: Brandon Marshall, Percy Harvin, Eric Decker, the Jets now have two receivers that have had 1,000 yard seasons in one of the last two years in Marshall and Decker, and a former Pro Bowler in Harvin. Regardless of who’s taking the snaps this year, they’ll have the tools to succeed.
