The woman who brutally cut the unborn baby from its mother’s womb will face 100 years in prison, where she belongs.
A few weeks ago, the world was stunned after hearing the news of a pregnant woman who had her unborn baby cut out of her after answering a Craigslist ad for baby clothes.
Thirty four year old Dynel Lane was charged Friday with first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and unlawful termination of a pregnancy. If convicted, Lane could face more than 100 years in prison.
She was not charged with murder, as it couldn’t be proven the baby was alive outside of the womb.
The victim, Michelle Wilkins, survived the vicious attack but her baby did not. Initially, Lane was charged with attempted first degree murder, assault, and child abuse knowingly/recklessly resulting in death. That was amended by the Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett.
Because of the case, the Colorado Republicans have entered into more heated debates over a fetus’ legal right.
