The upcoming period piece/horror mashup is coming at the beginning of next year.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a project that’s been green lit for quite some time, and it will finally be released in February of 2016. Lily James of the recent live-action Cinderella will star as Elizabeth Bennett, with Sam Riley as Mr. Darcey.
Zombies is based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, which is a mashup of the classic Jane Austen novel with post-apocalyptic zombie elements. Another of Grahame-Smith’s novels, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, got the film treatment in 2012, courtesy of director Timur Bekmambetov and producer Tim Burton. It’s easy to assume that the modest success of Vampire Hunter and the incalculable success and longevity of AMC’s TV series The Walking Dead made this all possible. I wonder if they’ll do Android Karenina next.
