Today we say a big Happy Birthday to a hip hop legend and pioneer, Q-Tip!

Born Jonathan Davis on April 10, 1970, Q-Tip helped found the one and only A Tribe Called Quest in 1985 with his high school friends Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White.

While much can be said about the group itself, Q-Tip, who has since changed his name to Kamaal, has led an amazing solo career as well, pioneering many different sounds. In 1990, he added a soulful hip hop element to Deee-Lite’s “Groove Is In The Heart”, and 15 years later worked with the icon electronica group The Chemical Brothers on their track “Galvanize”, a record he later won a Grammy for.

Working in many different genres of music, Q has left a mark that many other artists have yet to fulfill. After winning many awards, and participating in the arts from music to movies to DJing, we wish him a Happy Birthday and wonderful future in all his endeavors he has yet to conquer.
