The writer of two autobiographies, former United States Secretary of State, U.S. Senator, and First Lady of the United States is looking to add “President” to her resume. Today, Hillary made her announcement for candidacy in the upcoming 2016 election. The advocate for gender politics is the front-runner of the Democratic Party and she will approach pay equity in earnest, along with other issues important to many women, like paid family and medical leave, a higher minimum wage, and affordable access to child care.

If elected, Hillary Clinton will make history as the first female president of the United States of America, but aside from that fact, her 2016 campaign will open a new chapter in the extraordinary life of a public figure who has captivated the country, and built a strong support base since her husband, former President Bill Clinton, was in office. Mrs. Clinton may be the most talked about female to run for President, but she sure isn’t the first.
