I know what you’re thinking: “Not another Marilyn biopic,” but this TV mini series aims to reveal an all new side of the bombshell’s life.
The miniseries is based off of J. Randy Taraborrelli’s best-selling novel of the same name, and chronicles how Norma Jeane coped with and overcame the lack of a mother to become the successful icon she was. This Lifetime series will star Kelli Garner, Susan Sarandon, Emily Watson and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Rather than focusing on the played out relationships between Monroe and her various lovers, this series unearths her hidden secrets, while her crumbling marriages take a backseat. The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe also focuses on the tension between Marilyn and her mother Gladys. The show will depict how Gladys suffered with mental illness so severe that she was institutionalized, and how this significantly impacted Marilyn’s psyche. The miniseries premieres May 30th at 8/7 central. Check out the trailer below:
