After the officer who shot and killed their son walked free, The Browns are hitting the city of Ferguson in the worse way by filing a civil suit. According to Black America Web, the parents of Michael Brown, Lesly McSpadden and Michael Brown Sr. announced the lawsuit late Wednesday night through their attorneys. The Brown family has filed a civil lawsuit against the city of Ferguson under Missouri’s “wrongful death statute” according to attorney Benjamin Crump‘s statement Thursday.

The suit seeks punitive and compensatory damages in excess of at least $75,000, in addition to attorney fees. Attorneys of the Browns announced that Darren Wilson, the officer who shot and killed Brown, was named in the civil suit back in March but did not mention him in the recent announcement. The law firm that released the statement did not go into further details about the suit. After the shooting of Brown, a St. Louis grand jury declined to prosecute Wilson which caused a spark for more protests in Ferguson. The Department of Justice did an investigation and released a report citing racial bias and profiling in the Ferguson police department that frequently targets black residents.
