According to the NY Daily News, Harlem native Loni Tate is no stranger to the famous tattoo  spot. She’d done one of her six previous tattoos at the shop. Tate, who says that she is a fan of “skulls,” was satisfied with her tattoo and decided to go back for another one in January of 2014: a custom rose on her forearm. Tate had gotten half of the tattoo done by tattoo artist Kelvin Cepeda, when he said he had to leave for an event, so she had to come back the next day.

Tate returned and found it strange that Cepeda had set up the tattoo gun before her arrival. According to Tate, the artists usually set up in front of their customer. Tate says three days later, she was in excruciating pain, and that she’d texted Cepeda, who replied by telling her she would feel better in “a couple of days.”

Tate had to go to the hospital for 4 days after the tattoo began swelling and oozing, and doctors had to treat a deep infection. Tate believes Cepeda used a dirty pen on her, and is suing the business for unspecified damages.
