One of Angela’s most famous credits is Jay Z’s “Empire State of Mind.” Angela treated guests to a very special performance of the original version at the Gala, which was held at New York Public Library. Read our exclusive interview below:

What are you working on these days?

I have been on tour since February; I’ve been promoting my single “Party Done.” I’m working on this Soca infused album. I am so happy to finally have music out to the world. I’ve been performing all over the world and for thousands of people. My life is crazy right now; I can’t believe what’s happening. I can’t believe that I’m performing and performing in front of all these people, it’s been pretty surreal for me, it’s like the girl that stole Carnival 2015 and beyond. I’m just happy to bring Soca to the for print, I’m happy to be a part of that. Machel Montano has given me this floor and has been a major driving force behind it. I thank him and wow it’s been surreal.

Do you think Soca will cross over?

It’s here, I heard it this morning on the radio and I’m like, “Wow…” It’s not watered down … This is it. It’s always been on the verge and I think it just took some time for it to come into main stream and it’s here and hopefully we’re not going anywhere.

Do you have any other projects in the works?

Right now I’m fully focused on the record. The touring is a full three sixty five, all day, every day thing so I’ve been really engulfed in it. I’m really very dedicated to it. Something I’ve been working on; we’ve just finished working with Nico and Vinz. We have a song coming out, it’s on Sevyn Streeter’s album. It’s finally coming out, I’m looking forward to her album and I’m looking forward to Nico and Vinz  and the stuff we’re doing with them because they’re also very culturally infused. It’s great that we come together and put all these cultures together and Machel Montano’s album, we’re working on that actually. I’m actually leaving for the Bahamas in the morning for a month to go work on his album and I’m just finally taking the time out to work on my music and I’m finally happy to be in that space, I’m happy to be on tour, I can’t tell you.
