An evening of celebration, inspiration, good music, networking, and peace…
On May 19, 2015, the legendary human rights leader Malcolm X would have celebrated his 90th birthday, had his life not been tragically taken during his journey and fight for equality and fairness for all. In the 50 years since his passing, Malcolm X’s life has been written about, spoken about, debated, made into film and honored in many, many ways, but on Tuesday, May 19th, The Source along with X Legacy and the Shabazz Center presents an opportunity to celebrate the 90th Birthday one of our greatest visionaries and leaders of all time, El Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, Malcolm X.
At 6pm, please join The Source, and many others at The Shabazz Center in Harlem, where we will not only remember the impact Malcolm X left on so many lives while he was on earth, but the inspiration he has provided so many others, and the life lessons that are still prevalent in our every day livers, from the music we listen to, to the morals we pass on from generation to generation.
The Source will not only be supporting the Shabazz Center’s efforts, but will be co-hosting a segment of the evening, “Open Mic Reflections,” where spoken word artists, rappers and singers will be given the opportunity to showcase their talents with original pieces dedicated to celebrating Malcolm’s life and legacy. Those interested in performing, please upload a :15 second Instagram video showcasing your talent with the hashtags #xlife and #mxbday. If selected, we’ll contact you as soon as possible.
