An Omaha police officer was gunned down just hours before taking home her premature daughter. According to MSNBC, 29 year old Kerrie Orozco was excited to finally bring home her baby girl, Olivia Ruth who was born premature three months earlier. Before she could bring her daughter home, Orozco went to serve a felony arrest warrant to 26 year old Marcus Wheeler. A shootout began and both Orozco and Wheeler were shot.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and tried to save both Orozco and Wheeler but were unsuccessful. Orozco who was a seven year veteran who was getting ready to go on maternity leave so she could care for her newborn daughter. Orozco was described as a top notch police officer who gave back to her community in so many ways. On the Omaha police department Facebook page, the department wrote about the loss of a fellow officer.
“Her loss will not only impact the police officers but will also be a huge loss for the citizens of Omaha,”
