NYPD Officer Ymmacula Pierre has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property and identity theft after she used a dead man’s credit card to buy a ring from Zales, valued at over $3,000.

It was Officer Pierre herself that discovered the dead man after she was called to his apartment when he was a “no show” for work. The deceased, who was not identified in this New York Daily News report, had apparently succumbed to his well-known and documented health issues. Following her discovery, Pierre used the deceased’s cell phone to contact his relatives and voucher his credit card, enabling her to use her boyfriend’s computer and purchase the $3,200 ring, which she had sent to her apartment.

In addition to the aforementioned charges, Pierre has also been slapped with a charge of official misconduct.

Here’s Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance on the incident:

No grieving relative should have to worry about alleged theft and misconduct by a uniformed officer in the aftermath of a loved one’s passing.
