The scoring machine will throw his name amongst other superstars like Kevin Love into the free agency pool
The Dallas Mavericks was hit with some major news that may make this summer’s free agency period a lot more interesting. Shooting guard Monta Ellis has decided to not pick up his player option of $8.3 million dollars and has decided that he will become a free agent on July 1st.
The 29-year-old veteran averaged 19 points and five assists for Dallas on 45% shooting. The decision came right on time as he was faced with a June 24th deadline to decide whether to pick up the option or not. Citing attitude problems and refusing to rest an injury which led to a month long slump, Dallas had came up with the decision that they were going to move on if Ellis decided to opt out of his 3 year contract he signed in 2013.
Dallas is aiming at 3 point sharpshooting specialist Danny Green as a potential replacement for Ellis. If they were to add Green to the roster this could be a major pick up, as he was a huge asset for the Spurs during their championship run. As for Ellis, there are teams who are showing interest in him. Turning 30 in October, there are squads such as the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers who are willing to add the Mississippi bred guard to their roster.
