Homemade juicing has become increasingly popular over the years, proving it to be more than just a “fad” or the latest “trend.”
Juicing is now an integral part of a daily routine for millions of people across the globe.
There are many reasons to juice. Juices are loaded with active enzymes, which assist with the digestion process. It can help balance the body’s acid/alkaline levels, eliminate toxins, boost vitality, and plus, they can be just plain delicious! Make sure you nab yourself a decent juicer beforehand (trying to extract juice from a raw beetroot is not an easy feat). You will also need to peel your fruit and vegetables, which can take a few minutes, but the rewards are more than worth it.
Here are just a few recipes to help get your body into gear for the summer!
Summer Green Sip
Spinach and parsley are rich in vitamins and minerals, as is celery. Between them, you get a nice boost of vitamins A, K, C, B2, Zinc, fiber, potassium (the list goes on). We all know that citrus fruits are a great source of vitamin C, but it adds a little sweetness to this blend, as does the apple. Parsley is great for relieving joint pain and for building up your immune system. Apples can help to reduce cholesterol, prevent gallstones, and can also assist in detoxifying your liver.
Try not to be too rigid with the juices. General quality of the ingredients will inevitably affect the outcome, so taste and tweak as you go!
- 1 handful of parsley
- 2 celery sticks
- 1 handful of baby spinach
- 1 orange
- 1 apple
This is one of my favorite juices, and that’s mainly because fennel is one of my favorite juicing ingredients. If you’re a lover of licorice, fennel’s aniseed taste will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Not to mention that it’s high in potassium, calcium, magnesium, and exceptionally high in vitamin C. Ginger root is great for treating minor stomach problems, and even for menstrual pain.
- 1 handful of parsley
- Half a fennel bulb
- 2 large carrots
- 1 large beetroot
- 2 medium apples
- 1 cm fresh ginger root
Who doesn’t love the taste of strawberries? They make everything delicious!
Did you know that they also help to kickstart your metabolism? Well, they do! Mint is a great relaxant, and aids in clearing congestion, and is also a great for asthma sufferers. Strawberries, oranges, and spinach are all gloriously rich in vitamin C, so this juice is great for your skin hence the “glow.”
- 15 strawberries
- A handful of baby spinach
- A handful of mint leaves
- 1 small orange
After juicing, you can pour your fresh-squeezed creation in an ice-filled glass to help you keep cool in this summer heat. Enjoy!
