John Wall is observing the landscape, and he doesn’t understand it
NBA Free Agency has been a fascinating thing to watch this year, and when you add in the slowly ballooning cap and what’s now known as “pulling a DeAndre Jordan,” this has certainly been the most captivating offseason since the infamous summer of 2010.
One guy is watching all of the craziness, and he doesn’t love what he sees. John Wall, a Top 5 talent at the point guard position and the leader of the Washington Wizards, an Eastern Conference contender, believes there’s a significant amount of overpaying going on.
“People talk about me getting $80 million, now you got people getting $85 million that haven’t made the All-Star (Game) or anything like that. I guess they came in at the right time. That new CBA kicked in and they’re good now.”
All it takes is a quick scan of the summer’s free agency signings, and you can pretty much get an understanding of the type of contracts Wall’s talking about. Or, maybe you don’t have to do all that.

To Jackson’s defense, the Detroit Pistons are desperately trying to gain some traction in their backcourt, where they may be on to something. A starting line-up that boasts Reggie Jackson and Brandon Jennings, two proven playmakers that can deliver in the clutch, could match-up well with the majority of the Eastern Conference, most of whom will sport middling records by season’s end.
Still, there’s something to be said about guys like Jackson and Tristan Thompson, who don’t have 50 NBA starts between them, getting max or near-max money.
