Chicago crooner BJ The Chicago Kid recently held a private listening session to preview his upcoming album for a handful of New York City tastemakers. Fitted out in a grey suit with shorts, he performed “Turning Me Up” with his live band and gave the attendees some insight into the inspirations behind a few of his tracks. From what we could tell, the album will present a more mature version of BJ who has become comfortable with his soulful sound and looks to push it into a modern sound. He also revealed the album title, In My Mind, which will be out on Motown this Fall. His first official single, “Church,” will feature Chance the Rapper. Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock are other guest features, besides OG Maco, who is on his last release, “That Girl.”
