According to the Baltimore Sun, e-mails dated back to May has surfaced, showing that Rihanna wanted to put together a free concert as well as walk with protestors a week after rioting broke out after the fatal police shooting of young, unarmed black man Freddie Gray. The message was sent to Capt. Eric Kowalczyk and the police commissioner. Anthony Batts and Kevin Harris, a spokesman for the mayor were carbon copied into the message also, yet, the concert never went on.
At the end of the day, Prince organized a benefit concert with help from TIDAL, raising about $35,000. It would’ve been nice to see a modern artist with such a huge pop cultural influence like Rihanna to be actively apart of the movement, instead of just hash tagging on social media and donating money.
This information was revealed due to a conversation between the head of media relations for Baltimore police and a representative from Rihanna’s camp who denies to make any comments.
