Trevor Jackson is an American singer, actor, songwriter, and dancer. He is best known for portraying Kevin Blake on Syfy original series Eureka, and for portraying Kris McDuffy on Disney Channel’s hit movie Let It Shine. Other notable appearances for him include the Broad musical The Lion King, where he played Young Simba. At only 18 years old he has already shown star quality that many never come close to achieving. Recently, he was cast for a role in the feature film Sons 2 The Grave. I had a chance to sit down with him to ask how it’s been.

You have the lead role in the feature film,  Sons 2 The Grave.  The movie  delivers a powerful message.  How do you feel about the responsibility of delivering that message?

I love the responsibility.  I feel like that’s why I do what I do so I can be a positive influence on the world around me.
The role of Marcus Jennings speaks to the choices we make in life and the consequences.  What do you hope people take away from the movie?
I hope they take away how important choices are.  Although at the time they may seem minuscule, they play a huge part in the unfolding of your life.  The role and life of Marcus Jennings shines light on that truth.
It’s been said that “Sons 2 The Grave”  delivers “real”  commentary, without pulling punches.  Was that important to you?
Yes, it is really important to me for people to see the reality and rawness of people in Marcus Jennings situation.
You have a great cast.  What was it like working on set?
It was incredible! I learned a lot from the talented people around me. Mykelti became a mentor,  Justin Martin and Algee Smith became my brothers and everybody became family.
The movie’s director was Mykelti Williamson.  Does it make a difference having a director who is also an actor?
It makes a huge difference for he is able to communicate from an actor’s perspective which is easier to understand and vice versa.  I’m thankful that he allowed it to be a collaborative effort.
The movie, also has a very passionate writer and producer, Lynne Stoltz.  She has high praise for you.  What was it like having the writer on set during the filming?
It was awesome having her on set.  She has such a great spirit and wanted to make this film for all the right reasons.  I’m thankful that she saw enough in me to bring her vision to life.
I understand that your music will also be on the soundtrack.
Yes,  I’m excited because I know the music will bring a whole other element to the story.  I’m grateful that the team loved the music I’m doing right now and thought it would be a great fit for the project.
