UPDATE: Check out some highlights from Stewart’s emotional last show above.

A bittersweet farewell, tonight, on Comedy Central

If nothing else, Jon Stewart has been a breath of fresh air over the past 16 years as the host of Comedy Central’s political parody nightly, The Daily Show. “Breath of fresh air” does little justice to the scope of Stewart’s commentary, and the audacity with which he approached his job, whether he was shooting down Fox News’ ridiculous narration of the calamity in Baltimore, or Mike Huckabee‘s short-sighted descriptions of Jay Z and Beyonce‘s relationship, but that’s exactly what he was. Night in, and night out.

Tonight is his last night, and before Trevor Noah–for whom the comedy world has high hopes–takes over the weighty reigns in September, let’s re-visit one of Stewart’s finest moments: a prolific evisceration of a particularly conservative news network’s coverage following Michael Brown‘s shooting in Ferguson. Whether you agree with Stewart’s point of view or not, the below clip serves as a microcosm of what Stewart stood for during his tenure. Deliver what he believe to be the truth, whether you like it or not.
