The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has said that there will be a press conference today anouncing that the death of Officer Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, the officer who radioed that he was in pursuit of three Black male suspects who shot at him, actually died from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Conclusive results of the investigation revealed that the Fox Lake cop killed himself, reported other local media outlets, all citing anonymous sources.

Gliniewicz, 52, radioed on Sept. 1 that he was chasing three suspicious Black men on foot. Backup officers later found his body 50 yards from his squad car. This was followed up by A massive manhunt, with hundreds of officers searching houses, cabins and even boats around surrounding area lakes. Authorities immediately released a racial description of three suspects, though no one was ever arrested.

It was the Lake County’s Coroner report that prompted a further investigation into his death, with the coroner revealing that he died from a “single devastating” gunshot to the chest.
