Badu shared an exclusive preview of the track last week via a live broadcast on Periscope. The track is now available in its proper form courtesy of Apple Music, with Badu sharing, “This one’s for Aubrey.”

On the heels of her initial “Hotline Bling” remix, the artist announced her latest project would be available Thanksgiving weekend, marking her first major solo project since 2010.

Drawing clear inspiration (again) from “Hotline Bling”, Badu’s “Phone Down” follows the mixtape’s phone-related theme. Interestingly enough, Badu also shared she hasn’t heard from Drake and wasn’t sure if he’d even heard her original remix, observing he’s “super busy right now.” More importantly, Badu stated she’s in love with this new mixtape and her excitement about the music she’s making is exactly what fans are eager to hear following her recent hiatus.

“Phone Down” features Badu’s signature laid back confidence in its lyrics: “Boy, I can make you put your phone down, and it wouldn’t leave your pocket. You probably wouldn’t even know how to unlock it.”
