New movie, Secret in Their Eyes starring Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and Chiwetel Ejiofor, is a remake of the Argentine thriller El Secreto De Sus Ojos. The movie starts off with former FBI investigator Ray Kasten (Chiwetel Ejiofor) returning to LA to meet with current District Attorney and longtime friend, Claire (Nicole Kidman). Ray reveals that he has located a former suspect in a case both of them worked on 13 years ago. Ray wants to reopen the case so that this man can finally get what he deserves. However, the real reason that Ray wants to solve this case is because it involves the murder of his former FBI partner Jess’ (Julia Roberts) daughter.  And as soon as Ray sets his mind on catching this suspect, he does everything from connecting with old friends to doing undercover work to find this killer. He just wants to put his partner’s mind at ease once and for all.

With scenes switching back and forth from thirteen years ago to present day, Secret in Their Eyes does a masterful job at keeping the audience engaged. It was interesting to watch information involving the case leak out little by little. This will create a sense of thrill and excitement for the audience. Julia Roberts also does a spectacular job in her role as a former FBI agent and grieving mother. She brings a level of emotionality to this character that, in turn, makes Jess the most dynamic character in this entire movie. We also enjoyed the pace of the movie. Typically with psychological thrillers such as these, scenes tend to drag on much longer than needed. With this movie, everything was very straight forward, which allowed for audience members to continue to be engaged. It is sometimes hard to try and do a remake of a popular movie. We think this movie is just as good, if not better than the original.

Secret in Their Eyes is now playing.
