Erykah Badu stopped through Power 105.1 this morning to chop it up with The Breakfast Club hosts, DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne.
During the interview, Badu opened up about the current state of the music industry, social media (including her much publicized ‘Twitter beef’ with Azealia Banks) and her love for Dej Loaf. She also talked in depth about her relationship with Jay Electronica (who showed up to the interview “as security”).
Never one to shy away from burning questions, Charlamagne quizzed Badu on her “baby daddy” Electronica and his elusive, forthcoming album. Badu had this to say:
“Jay don’t need to make an album. He can make one if he wants to, but he don’t need to do that. I don’t think that everybody needs to make an album. I mean, he’s an amazing emcee and he’s an amazing – all different kinds of things too. Jay is a person that comes into people’s lives and brings out the best in them. And that’s the truth. If he wants to make another album, he can make another album. His Eternal Sunshine can last us until 2029. I mean, because I still haven’t heard anything as good as that. In fact, I just posted it on my Soundcloud, because it’s just so amazing. I still can’t match that. It’s the best mixtape if that’s what it’s called, that I’ve ever heard.”
Erykah Badu’s forthcoming mixtape drops November 26, and you can see her hosting the 2015 Soul Train Awards on November 29 on Centric.
