Serena Williams is ending 2015 on a high note. She took to her social media to announce her cover of Sports Illustrated as “Sportsperson of The Year”:
“This year was spectacular for me. For SportsIllustrated to recognize my hard work, my dedication, and my sheer determination gives me hope to continue on and do better. As I always say, it takes a village it’s not just one person. This is not just an accomplishment for me, but for my whole team. I am beyond honored. I love you guys! 2016? #letsdoit ❤”
Williams is the first solo woman to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated‘s “Sportsperson of the Year” issue since the 1983 cover with track champion Mary Decker, and she deserves all the praise. The 34-year-old dominated women’s tennis in 2015, winning three Grand Slam singles titles and amassing a near-flawless 53-3 record.
Serena is the epitome of #BlackGirlMagic, with an astonishing year like the one she’s just had, we can’t wait to see her hit the court in 2016.
