It was just under two years ago Mike D’Antoni was using his brilliance to guide the Lakers until taking his resignation and it seems he’s back in the league. This time with the Philadelphia 76ers after they have announced  that he has agreed to be the associate head coach.

D’Antoni’s most recent coaching job came under the Lakers as he served as the head coach from 2012-2014 and before that stop was the head coach of the Knicks for 4 seasons (2008-2012).  It’s a bit mind boggling to see that the Sixers are bringing in a coach that has a bit of a rift at his last landing spots, but it’s obvious the Sixers need help. With the struggle tunnel under Bret Brown looking ever so long, the Sixers are in desperate need of a make over and senior executive Sam Hinkie believes D’Antoni is the person to change things around.

Although he’s regarded as a coach that isn’t necessarily the “best,” in Philly he could be ideal . With a reputation of accelerating the development process of young guards, D’Antoni may be the coach to really bring out the young crop of guards in the organization. Only time will tell if he can do it, but one thing is certain, it will not be overnight.
