On December 10, Couch missed a scheduled meeting with his probation officer a few weeks after he is shown in a video playing beer pong with what appear to be fellow college students. Couch, who is only 18 years old and was only 16 and the time he committed the crime, is prohibited from drinking alcohol under the terms of his probation. If Couch is found guilty of alcohol consumption, he would have to serve 10 years in prison for violating probation.

Couch’s mother is reported to be assisting Ethan’s attempt to evade authorities. The US Marshals have announced an award of $5,000 to anyone who has information on Couch’s whereabouts.
