After being under extreme criticism in the past year for misuse of force and police related shooting deaths, the Chicago PD is under fire again after two people were shot and killed by one police officer in what is being described as a domestic disturbance gone awry.

Around 4:30 am, officers responded to a call in West Garfield Park about a domestic conflict, said a police spokesperson.

“Upon arrival, officers were confronted by a combative subject resulting in the discharging of the officer’s weapon, fatally wounding two individuals,”

the police said.

Even though the police department did not identify those who were killed, a Chicago fire dispatcher confirmed that a 19-year-old man and 56-year-old woman were transported from West Garfield Park after the shooting. A woman named Janet Cooksey told CNN afilliate WLS that her son had been shot and killed.

“I went to the hospital; my son has seven bullet wounds in him,” Cooksey said. “And that’s too much.”

This shooting comes just two days following the protests for the police killing of Laquan McDonald, which shut down the Magnificient Mile shopping district in downtown Chicago.
