It was on Christmas Day that President Erdogan’s motorcade stopped on Istanbul’s Bosphorous Bridege where Vezir Cakras was prepared to jump.

It was Erdogan’s bodyguards who stepped out, initially convincing the man not to jump. Telling him that the president wanted to speak to him, they escorted him away from the edge and toward the president’s car.

During the interaction between Erdogan and Cakras, the Turkish leader does not leave his car and keeps his cellphone pressed against his ear.

Mr. Erdogan’s office says that Cakras was depressed due to “family issues”, and that President Erdogan offered to help.
